Together, we are working to create a community that honors integrity and champions the diverse narratives that shape our understanding of the world. We are working to dismantle shame and taboo around pleasure in all its forms. Join us in this magical journey of connection, celebration, and diverse stories at Temptation in the Triangle.

Purpose of the Code of Ethics

Ethics are at the core of who we are at Temptation in the Triangle. As writers, creatives, and other professionals on the Temptation in the Triangle team, we have a responsibility to articulate our core values, ethical principles, and standards. Temptation in the Triangle has compiled these values, principles, and standards as a guideline for event attendee conduct. The code is relevant to all attendees regardless of their role at the event. Signing authors, vendors, sponsors, models, narrators, influencers, readers, and volunteers are all expected to act accordingly.

The code of ethics serves five purposes:

  1. The Code identifies the core values of the Temptation in the Triangle team.

  2. The Code summarizes the broad ethical principles that reflect Temptation in the Triangle’s core values and establishes a set of specific ethical standards that should be used as a guide for everyone in attendance.

  3. The Code provides ethical standards to which attendees can hold others accountable.

  4. The Code articulates standards that Temptation in the Triangle has set for itself and can use to assess whether attendees have engaged in unethical behavior. Temptation in the Triangle has procedures in place for ethical complaints.

Code of Ethics

We at Temptation in the Triangle believe that reading is inherently political, books should not be banned, marginalized voices should be uplifted, trans rights are human rights, no human is illegal, all bodies are good bodies, reproductive rights are vital healthcare, love should be celebrated in all its forms, and every reader deserves respect. We are committed to creating a safe, respectful, and inclusive environment for all attendees. To ensure everyone feels welcomed and valued, we kindly ask that all participants follow this Code of Conduct:

1. Safety and Respect for All

  • Everyone at this event deserves to feel safe, heard, and respected. Any form of harassment, discrimination, or harmful behavior will not be tolerated.

  • We strive to create a welcoming environment where everyone can share their love of books without fear of judgment.

2. Kindness over Niceness

  • Where niceness focuses on being pleasant, polite, and aligning with societal expectations, kindness is deeply rooted in genuine concern and care for others and involves actions motivated by empathy, compassion, and a desire to help.

  • Approach others with kindness and empathy. Offer support, encouragement, and positive energy to fellow attendees, authors, and event staff.

  • We believe that kindness is powerful, and we aim to create a space where everyone can engage in meaningful and uplifting conversations.

3. Zero Tolerance for Discrimination

  • There is zero tolerance for racism, sexism, ableism, ageism, homophobia, and transphobia.

  • We believe in creating an environment where everyone, regardless of race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, ability, or background, feels seen and respected.

4. Reading is Inherently Political

  • Reading is more than just a means of escape or education. The act of reading books informs, shapes, and inspires people. Books are a form of activism and resistance, shaping narratives and amplifying the voices and experiences of marginalized groups while challenging societal norms and power structures.

  • We believe in everyone’s right to literacy and book accessibility and that book banning is oppression.

5. Inclusivity

  • This event is inclusive, meaning all individuals, regardless of gender identity and/or sexual orientation, ethnicity, race, ability, etc., are welcome with open arms.

  • We believe that uplifting historically marginalized voices through literature is essential for fostering understanding, promoting social justice, and creating a more inclusive narrative that challenges detrimental ideologies. Please refrain from using invalidating or marginalizing language/actions.

6. Body Positivity and Inclusivity

  • All bodies are beautiful and deserve respect. There is no place for body shaming or negative comments about physical appearance.

  • We celebrate all types of bodies, abilities, and sizes. Let’s lift each other up and embrace the diversity that makes us unique.

7. No Kink Shaming

  • Everyone has the right to express themselves in a safe and non-judgmental environment. Please respect others’ personal boundaries and choices.

  • Kink shaming or any form of negative judgment on alternative lifestyles is strictly prohibited.

8. AI is Theft

  • We believe in uplifting and supporting human authors, artists, and creatives.

9. Books Save the World

  • We believe in the transformative power of books. Whether fiction or nonfiction, books give us the tools to learn, grow, and understand one another better.

  • Let’s celebrate the stories that connect us all, and let our shared love for literature inspire kindness, change, and a brighter world.

10. Reporting Inappropriate Behavior

  • If you witness or experience any behavior that violates this Code of Ethics, please notify event staff immediately. We are here to ensure that everyone has a positive and safe experience.

11. Inappropriate Behavior

  • Anyone found guilty of behavior that violates this code of ethics may face removal from the event with no refund.
